Elliptical Reviews

When I made the elliptical trainer reviews section of EEE my hope was that I could help you avoid wasting your hard earned money trying to find the best ellipticals.

It’s the guide I wish I had when I was shopping for an elliptical because it would have saved me over $5000 dollars on equipment I wish I never bought in the first place. Unfortunately for me there weren’t any elliptical reviews online that I could learn from, I had find out things the hard way and had to empty my wallet.

My Elliptical Journey

I’ve been the proud owner of (3) different elliptical machines that have run the gamut in price and quality from entry level machines to cross trainers that ran into the multiple thousands.

My first machine was a Nordictrack E9 Elliptical that we bought locally from their outlet when they were still based here in Minneapolis MN.

It was a decent machine that worked well for a couple years and then we outgrew its’ rudimentary functions like the old ear clip pulse sensor — yes they used to use ear clips for pulse sensing back in the day if you can believe that!

The next elliptical machine I bought was a super high priced Octane Q45 Elliptical from a local dealer, the dang thing cost $1500 bucks more than my first car if you can believe that.

I used the Octane for a few years and then sold it on Craigslist while it still had a strong resale value, then I was off on the hunt for another machine.

The Elliptical Machine I’m Using Now

The elliptical trainer I’m using now is the Sole E95 Elliptical, it’s the best elliptical machine for the money that I’ve owned, and it’s not even a close contest.

It cost half as much as my Octane Q45, it’s more ergonomic and I get a great workout on it every morning without any knee pain or foot numbness. But just because it was the best choice for me, doesn’t mean that it is for you.

You have your own unique needs, and your own budget. To find the best elliptical for you, keep reading the elliptical reviews below, or checkout my elliptical machine resource page and get educated — it will save you thousands!

Sole E55 Elliptical Review

The Sole E55 Elliptical is the next step up from the Sole E35 in the Sole family that includes the Sole E25 and the Sole E95 in ascending order of cost and features. If you’ve read many of my reviews, you might start to notice a pattern on what I recommend from each manufacturer. That [...]

Smooth Me Elliptical Review

As the name suggests, the Smooth ME Elliptical Trainer is just that, smooth. It has a true oval elliptical motion that makes it feel more like you are floating than striding. The build quality is also top notch, there is a lifetime frame warranty, with two years on parts and 1 year on labor. [...]

Proform 1280 Elliptical Review

The Proform 1280 elliptical trainer is my pick as best elliptical in the under $700 price range. The 1280 is miles ahead of the other budget ellipticals from Proform including the Proform 700, Proform 850 and the Proform 900. Some elliptical shoppers will make the mistake of overlooking the Proform 1280 because it falls into [...]

Proform 850 Elliptical Review

The Proform 850 elliptical trainer falls into the middle of the Proform Elliptical line. Its priced almost $200 for than the Proform 700, and Proform 900 and about $150 less than the Proform 1280 Elliptical (best in class pick). The Proform 850 elliptical trainer suffers from the problem of trying to be all things to [...]

Orbitrek Elliptical Trainer Review

What’s the best thing about the Orbitrek elliptical trainer? You can get one for a very reasonable investment. And you get a lot for your money. Granted, you’re not going to fool yourself into thinking that you’re on a $4000 club quality machine, but what you do get for the money is surprising. Here are [...]

Diamondback 1100 Elliptical Review

The Diamondback 1100 EL elliptical trainer is a model that will likely be overlooked by most people. Diamondback is more widely known for their excellent line of road and BMX bicycles. Smooth 3.6 Elliptical Review

OK, if you’ve followed my website and blog over the years you’ll know that I’ve been recommending the Smooth 3.0 elliptical for some time. So what do I think of the new Smooth 3.6 model you ask? I think the 3.6 elliptical is a nice, and worthy, upgrade over the 3.0 for a number of [...]

Spirit EL455 Elliptical Review

With the Spirit 455 elliptical, we’re finally getting up to the big leagues of ellipticals I would actually consider owning. For starters, the 455 has a club quality 20? stride length that will comfortably accommodate users from 5?-4? to about 6?-4? (sounds an awfully lot like me and my wifes heights). In addition to the [...]
