Smith Machines

Trying to figure out the best smith machine to buy can be difficult at best, there are so many smiths (and a Jones) on the market today it’s a total crap shoot unless you know which machines are worth the money and which are garbage that should be left on the rack at Costco.

Should you get a smith machine with bushings or bearings? A vertical smith system or a 7 or 5 degree angled smith? Is a Jones machine better than than the best smith machine?…

As a smith machine owner myself, I can help guide you through the confusing selection process in the sea of smith machines that includes: Bodycraft, Body Solid, Freemotion, Golds Gym, Hoist, Marcy, Nautilus, Parabody, Ultimate and Weider.

There are some definite differences in construction that you need to know before you buy the wrong smith machine and end up with an expensive coat hangar.

Before you invest you money on a smith system, read my reviews and make an informed decision.

Don’t forget to add a weight bench and a good set of adjustable dumbbells to round out your home gym.

There are tons of Smith Machines on the market that range in price form $350 up to $3000 dollars for club stlye conterbalanced smith machines. So what’s the best smith machine for 2011 for serious iron pumping at home? In order to answer that question, first I need to establish what makes a good smith [...]

Ultimate Smith Machine

The Fitness Gear Ultimate Smith Machine is a model that is private labeled to Dicks Sporting Goods and is sold in their stores only and is not available online. With so much interest in this machine I think they’re making a huge mistake by trying to keep this thing a secret from the online world. [...]

Parabody Smith Machine

The Parabody Smith System is hard to beat for the money. It’s one of the higher end smiths that’s on par with the Body Solid and Hoist models. I’m going to voice a gripe right up about the Parabody Smith, the fact is that you can only buy it through dealers in your local area, [...]

Nautilus Smith Machine

Another of the cheap smith machines typically carried by Costco and comparable in price to the Marcy Smith Machine and Freemotion Smith Machine. Nautilus decided to outfit this machine with (2) adjustable pulleys to do chest exercises and various arm exercises with and although you won’t find this option on many other smith machines (except [...]

Marcy Smith Machine

The Marcy Smith Machine is an all in one solution that’s a very entry level unit sold at most Costco stores across the good old USA. The list of features on the Marcy smith is impressive at first glance and it has a lot of what you want in a smith machine such as a [...]

Hoist PTS Lat Smith Machine

Hoist has a great smith machine with their new PTS system that, in my opinion is the best on the market, but you will have to cough up a substantial amount of cash to get one. The appeal of the new Hoist smith machine is the dual action system that allows full free range of [...]

Golds Gym Smith Machine

The Golds Gym Smith Machine is another telling tale of a once all powerful fitness brand name that’s completely sold out and will put their name on anything to make a buck. I’m sure Gold’s licensed out the their name to some cut rate manufacturer to have these smith machines made in a Chinese sweatshop [...]

Freemotion Smith Machine

The Freemotion r31 Smith Machine is another smith system sold through the discount retailer Costco and is comparable to the Marcy Smith Machine. The Freemotion 31 is another attempt to make a smith machine that looks good at first glance, but when you dig a little bit deeper, it becomes glaringly obvious that there are [...]

Bodycraft Jones Machine

The new Bodycraft Jones machine is a totally self contained smith system with a twist. It’s similar technology that’s found in the Hoist PTS smith machine and the original Max Rack 3 D smith machine. The advantage of the Jones machine as compared to a traditional smith machine, is its’ not locked into a vertical, [...]

Body Solid Smith Machine

If you read my review of the Parabody Smith Machine, you’ll know that I didn’t buy this Body Solid Smith but I came darn close, and I would buy one today based on the low price – keep reading for the whole story… When I was shopping for my smith machine, my short list came [...]
