Today I reviewed the TRX Suspension Trainer X Mount for attaching the TRX to a ceiling or wall in any room in your home to make training on your gym even easier and more effective.
If you’ve watched my TRX Suspension Trainer Video Review video here on the blog, you know that I’ve been using the TRX while it’s been attached to my old smith machine and more recently our new functional trainer.
The functional trainer is gone now too, so I’m using the TRX X Mount on the ceiling now exclusively. Here’s how I installed it to the ceiling joist in my basement.
The installation of the TRX X Mount was quick and easy. I used a stud finder to locate the center line of my ceiling joist, marked the attachment points with a pencil and used a 1/4″ drill bit to make the holes.
I then installed the X Mount with the supplied lag bolts and started using it within 10-15 minutes. If you haven’t tried the TRX yet, do it! It’s the best home gym under $200 on the market and will make your home workouts fun instead of a pain in the neckā¦

It looks like you have had this mounted for a some time now. How is this mount holding up? I am using the trx to supplement my lifts for track (throws) I am looking for ways to bring it home. Would you train a 340lb athlete on that mount?
Yeah, it’s been up for a couple years now and still going strong, but keep in mind that the longevity of the mount will vary based on a couple of factors.
First, how well the mount was positioned on the joists. You need to secure the bolts dead center on the joist for maximum holding power. And second, the mount needs to attach into solid wood joists, not the newer engineered joists that only have a thick bottom plate and a plywood core.
Would I train a 340 pound athlete on the mount? To be honest, that may be pushing the load rating a bit and it would make me a bit wary.
